Lexington Farms Way
Lexington Farms Way is a short street of about 460 feet that leaves Lexington Road near Austin Road and runs northeast to the middle of Apple Orchard Drive, east of Meadowbank Road and the Nuttings Lake streets. Town and registry records spell it Lexington Farms Way, after the subdivision it serves. It was laid out 50 feet wide on the "Lexington Farms" definitive subdivision plan, "prepared for Harry Allan" by Fleming, Bienvenu and Associates, Inc., engineers and surveyors, of Billerica and dated February 21, 1984. The Planning Board approved the plan on April 9, 1984, and it was recorded on May 4, 1984 (Plan Book 143, Plan 59). It divided the land into thirteen house lots of about 40,000 square feet, most of them on Apple Orchard Drive, a street with a turnaround at each end, and a larger lot of 7.4 acres; a brook and its wetlands bounded the tract on the north. The Planning Board listed Lexington Farms among the residential subdivisions it approved in 1984.
The only house with a Lexington Farms Way address, at the corner of Lexington Road, and the first houses on Apple Orchard Drive were built in 1984 and 1985. The street stayed private for more than thirty years. At the annual fall town meeting, in its session of October 11, 2018, the town accepted it as a public way under Article 40, "from Lexington Road to Apple Orchard Drive, approximate length 460' and 50' wide right of way," as shown on the 1984 plan and profile, together with Apple Orchard Drive and more than a dozen other streets; the vote was 137 to 10. The origin of the name beyond that of the subdivision was not found.
